Exploring Raw Materials Pt.2

I noticed the colour of the mortar mix begin to lighten as the moisture evaporated. When the colour of the top section appeared more uniformal, I decided to unwrap the lego mould from the concrete. I was pretty nervous, but simultaneously excited to see the results. Would it be dry properly? Would it collapse or break whilst removing the mould?

As I began removing the leo pieces, I initially noticed part of the concrete still appeared damp, but overall I was super excited by what was appearing.

After finally removing the mould, I decided to leave it to one side for a few more days to allow it to dry through properly. I couldn’t help but keep going over to look at it and tough it though! I absolutely love how it has come out, and am now wondering how I can take it further.

The very brutalist appearance speaks volumes to me, and makes me think about this structure in terms of our current society; the huge shopping centres taking over the urban landscape, capitalism. Is there beauty to be found in something so harsh, cold and obtrusive? I hope I will soon find out…

I loved the concrete against the organic wool material
